Hi, I recently sprayed all my track/ties what I though was a flat brown. The cap on the can indicated it was flat, however the ties have a shine to them. I want to take the shine off so I bought a bottle of flat clear by Model Masters. My question is what is best to use to dilute this with and can I use it as a wash once diluted to weather the ties at the same time as taking the shine off? Thanks for helping Edward
Wolfgang- Can't you dilute it with turpentine? Original poster- If so, be careful, you don't want to damage anything else.
I've used Floquil paints almost exclusively through the years. Yes, I know that its fumes are highly toxic. I've had bad luck trying to weather rail and ties by hand-brushing applications of thinned Roof Brown. I've had good luck spraying thin applications with an airbrush. You generally don't want to spray in the house, but with patient set-up, extreme care, emergency procedures and thorough clean up, I've found that I can spray-weather in the train room. Again, the fumes are dangerous. However you consider weathering track, try it first on a section of experimental track. Scott
Thanks Wolfgang & Fotheringill. It is lacquer based (it helps to read all of the label) lol... could it be thinned with acetone? Thanks again
If you dullcote your track you can not use alcohol to when you lay down ballast. The Dullcote and the alcohol have bad reactions to each other. your track will get coverd with a white residue that doesn't come off.
Right you are, thanks for the reminder... maybe have to dull it after ballasting. Maybe test a section first:thumbs_up: Thanks Edward
