Are you talking about the Genesis starter set? Or is there a newer one I've not yet heard about? The Genesis has been out for quite a while.
I don't know the name, Ridgerunner; I thought maybe it was called Aztec but that could be something else entirely.
The new one that is coming out is the Zephyr. Look here. http://www.ttx-dcc.com/technews/digitrax_decoder_wars.htm
I strongly recommend getting the Chief II set. It's an easy to set up system, works outstanding well and is able to grow togehter with your layout and your needs. I agreee that it's a hell of money for a starter but it's really worth it.
In DCC the term 'starter set' often seems to be used to mean a 'complete set' containing everything to get started - base station, controller and one or two decoders. It doesn't neccessarily mean a cheap or simple set.
I was thinking about getting one of the big three from Digitrax... but the following text from "Tony's" Website has me stumped. I may let the dust settle before I rush out and by something that is obsolete before I unpack it. -Kitbash [ 26 April 2002, 14:10: Message edited by: Kitbash ]
The "old" and "new" Digitrax starter sets will not become obsolete. They are just changing the names from Empire Builder ll to SUPER Empire Builder, and Chief ll to Super Chief. I'm not sure if there will be a Super Genesis. They might just go with the Zephyr. Besides the name change, the new sets will come with the DT400 throttle, which is awesome, and a new universal panel to plug the throttles into. Also they won't include a decoder with the deal. So, they are just changing the names, and giving you their best throttle. Nothing is becoming obsolete.
I decided to go with DCC and ordered the Super Chief Starter Set from TTX yesterday I did a lot of research and asked a lot of questions, both online and on the phone before deciding to go with this set. Hopefully I won't be disappointed.
chesapeake, You will like it promise. I have the originall chief with the DT300 throttle. All I have to do to get the new super duper Cheif is get the lastest best throttle and I have successfully upgraded.
By chance does Digitrax have their own web site? Or is Tony's the only place to read up on this product? BoxcabE50
Great.... I'll expect to see you at the uNcoNveNtioN in Richmond in September too... So, tell the group, how did you like our club layout? Harold
