I long considered buying a PR1 but found out that it is no longer available from Digitrax. Is there a problem with the PR1? Is it being upgraded? Is there something else that can be used instead?

PR1 worked great on some computers, not at all on others. PR1 software is DOS based and a version to work with WIN2k and XP was never relesed except a beta version.
Digitrax is supposed to be developing a PR2 in conjunction with their sound decoders. May be a while though, the sound decoders haven't appeared on the shelves yet.

Locobuffer combined with JMRI (Decoder pro plus other utilities) is the best combination I've found. It is not a stand alone programmer and needs to be used with a command station.
Locobuffer can be found here: http://www.rr-cirkits.com/

JMRI can be reviewed and downloaded for free from here:
    http://jmri.sourceforge.net/

If you want a stand alone programmer that can be used without a command station there is the
    SPROG II.
    It can be found here:

    Roger,
RR Cirkits (Dick Bronson) is also developing an add on programmer for the LocobufferII. This will let it operate similar to the SPROGII as a standalone.

I've decided to order the LocoBuffer-USB and download DecoderPro. My DCC system consists of: (1) DB150; (1) DCS100; (1) UR91; (1) DT-400 & (1) DT-400R throttles. I know the DCS100 & DT-400/400R allow me to readout CV's directly but I'd also like having a computer screen when I am at home for programming - and to experiment.

    Again I appreciate your help,

    Roger
