.......as a railfan? In 1991 I was "born again" as a steam fan at Sacramento, CA during Railfair '91. I was running around all over the place making a fool of myself. My wife captured some of this behavior on film. Can you say "foamer?" "HEY, Mr. Engineer, Can I see your cab, huh, huh?" "Hah, Dick Yager didn't see me climb up here, did he?"
Hmmmm. I believe that most of us have been this enthusiastic. At one time or another.... Or maybe all the time? Boxcab E50
OK, I guess I have to admit this one..... June 4, 2004 I was northbound on Amtrak #20. They changed from diesel power to electric at D.C., and of course I HAD to be up front during the connection. When the connection was complete, I wandered back to Viewliner #2010 to climb aboard only to find the steps retracted and door closed and locked...OH S..T!!!! Thank the Lord I'm 6'2"...I leaped and grabbed the door handle and at that moment the handle turned, the door opened, and the most beautiful grinning face of our car attendant looked down and said: "Mr. Coolidge, you have got to stop doing this every trip..." To explain...He and I had ridden together on many trips between NOL and WAS or NYP over 10 years, and my offtrain trips forward had gotten to be a joke. This time he got even... (For obvious reasons I do not use the attendant's name.)
Charlie, Yeah, I am. Only you and I know that for sure, eh? Hank, I like that story. If the NRHS doubleheaded 4-8-4 excursion comes to pass I will probably have a photo of myself looking like a mad dog, with foam all over my mouth and everywhere else. We need a smiley with foam.
You don't look any dumber than I did last weekend. btw, that's not foam dripping down my chin, that's my gray beard.
Hey Ed, I'm impressed....you're the only person on the right side of the cab. So they let you drive, did they?????
Steering wheel? Those things use a joystick. The computer is up on the backhead. Look closer next time. Boxcab E50
Several years ago, must have been 4 or so years ago now I had the happy experience to get a very short cab ride in the engine shown in the engine below. The excursion goes from Duluth Minnesota to Twin Harbors, Minnesota. On the return trip the engineer let me take the fireman's seat from the station to the first switch. When I ran up to the coaches I could see the passengers thought I was late and ran to the train. The conductor set them straight by asking me (loudly) how I liked my cab ride. couldn't erase that grin for a couple of days. http://www.lsrm.org/Scenic/nw5.htm
