I have just acquired a Kato GP50 in BN livery from a friend, and realised that it is one more locomotive that needs detailing. I add all the pilot details, sunshades, roof detail etc. and have only done a very small proportion of my roster so far. The purchase of new models outstrips my available time to add the details! One day I will catch up. How many of you have models that are awaiting painting, decalling, detailing etc. that you can't seem to catch up on? I cannot be alone ------------------ Alan www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
Alan,I have 1 gp-50 2 gp-35s 3 gp-40-2 1 sd-40-2 and 3 u25Bs in the paint shop, and this is only the N scale stuff. I also have at least a dozen freight cars to finish. I don't remember how any buildings to finish. Oh well at least I'll never lack for hobby projects. ------------------ Catt!
alan i too have several engines that need to be finished along with several pieces of rolling stock to add to the class tracks. i have several ns dash9 to finish, mopac gp50's and mopac sd40's, ns sd60's, also have some auto racks needing chopped and made into articulated auto racks. the bad part is i work the ns and if they allow me any time at home i am so burned out on the rr that i dont even want to look at another train. but i wouldnt change jobs for anything, the greatest job in the world. talk about the proto pics i get from work.
Hi all! My my name is Craig Martyn and I own a company that paints and DETAILS N scale locomotives and cars. If you guys (or anyone else) don't have the time to do it, I'm the person to talk to. I detail locomotives with cab sunshades, snow plow, MU hose(if apropriate), air hoses, rear view mirrors, grab irons, non operating or operating ditch lights(if wanted), lift rings, and, I will also add on MT couplers if you would like. On top of all this, I can drill out the fans (on EMD units only) and add in brass "see through" fans. The detail package is $15 and the brass fan deal is $10. I can be reached at CraigM111@aol.com. Remember that I also paint locomotives. THANKS Craig......BLMA(best looking models around!)
Its good to know that there are other railroaders that model makin! You just have to take your own time to be off! I like my job also but I really never get burnt out with trains especially my N scale! I do get burnt out on the harassment of officials at work! Take care and God bless! Dave
Alan, no way you're alone! I have quite a few unfinished projects. 2 RS-2s -- SOU green scheme 1 RS-3 -- SAL freight scheme 2 GP-40s -- SAL jolly green giant green scheme 1 GP-35 -- SAL/SCL split image scheme 1 SD-45 -- awaiting high hooding for a SOU unit and a host of freight cars for SOU, SCL, and RF&P. I also have several industry kits awaiting the day I finish more N-Trak (oNe-Trak) modules. I guess I was saving up kits in case the world collapsed under the Y2K bug!! Look Ahead, Look South
I'm waiting for vapor air-con units! Walthers is the slowest supplier in the world! I also need sunshades, plows, ditch-lights, mu hoses and recepticals, speed recorders, grag irons, lift rings, number boards, antennas.............Oh yeah, I forgot, this is N-Scale and we aren't supposed to deal with detail, are we? ------------------ MAX-RAILROADER
I think adding the details is half the fun anymore. I've gotten to the point with locos that lift rings, mu hoses, sunshades and windshield wipers are required. Grab irons I'm not so sure about - I saw where JnJ was supposed to now have drop grabs, so who knows. Now, how about surgery? One of the most enjoyable projects I've had was removing the dynamic brake housing from a LifeLike GP 38-2 to "MoPac" it. I've seen lots of articles about chopping noses. I'm also jealous of you guys with more money than hobby time. Geez, my job takes 12-14 hours a day and my mortgage eats up the take home (and no, I don't want any cheese with that whine!) Anyway, I really think that the actual modelling is half the fun.
i havent even started detailing mine yet, but i havent even finnished any of my HO locos yet either.... but i have started on 2 of them now well i ordered the bits and only got about 5% of them oh well i will get there in the end lol ------------------ wheres all the C636's???? http://www.stickymonk.com http://monkhome.homestead.com
It's TRUE! I saw Matt (sticky monk) actually doing some work on his HO locos. Just been checking up on the detailing I need to do on my N scale ones. I have: 2 x Spectrum C40-8W 1 x Arnold Slug (heavily bashed from a GP30) 1 x LifeLike GP38 2 x Kato C44-9W 2 x LL SD7 1 x SD45B 1 x Spectrum SD40-2 (heavily rebuilt) 1 x Atlas GP35 2 x Kato SD45 1 x Atlas GP30 1 x Kato C30-7 1 x Kato/JnJ SDF45 1 x LL GP20 1 x Atlas RS1 2 x Kato GP50 1 x Kato SD40-2 2 x Kato SD40-2 'snoots' on order plus about 100 freightcars to weight to NMRA recommendations, and weather. Plus trailers, containers, etc. I like to add as many details as poss. and some of the above have had various details added, including front pilot details, but I have decided I should add same to rear pilots, so nothing is actually finished. But it is very satisfying when it is done. Will have to work on one at a time, and get some progress. When I can get away from the PC ------------------ Alan www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
This seems like a meeting of PA... Painters Anonymous My paint list... 5 SD60/Ms - 3x BN, 1x BN1991, 1x Soo 1 GP50 - BN, detailed with new blower duct 1 GP18 - BN 1 SD40 - BN 1 SW9 - BN 1 GP9m - Soo and these are the locos awaiting the booth. There are some still in the detailing stage and others that haven't been commenced as I am waiting for the parts (GP10 Paducahs). Gary.
My wife says us model railroaders never seem to finish anything And if we do finish a layout, we tear it all down and start again ------------------ Alan www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
Right! I have decided that as I am self-employed, I will take friday afternoons off and get on with the detailing backlog. (Unless I have some urgent work to finish . . . .) ------------------ Alan www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
I have more engines and cars to work than I have time, that the way it supposed to be isn't it? Walthers isn't the only place to get detail parts. Try Brooklyn Locomotive Works, TexnRails and your local hobby shop. Check N-SCALE Magazine for many others. MARK ------------------
My local hobby shop has ordered from all of those guys and I'm STILL waiting! The AC units are the most important part, and nobody has them. ------------------ MAX-RAILROADER
I have a system! A card has been produced for each locomotive I have, with all items that need to be done. These are ticked off as they are completed, when all items are ticked, the card is torn up. I tore up FOUR cards this evening!!!!!!! (I have to have a system, otherwise I do not seem to make any progress). I really do enjoy the results, which spurs me on. ------------------ Alan www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
Progress on the Andersley Western continues . . . . instead of detailing some more locomotives, this evening Matt and I weighed all the freightcars, and added weight to the NMRA recommendations. We had been putting this off for ages, but 100+ cars really did not take very long. Now, we will not allow any new car on the track until it is correctly weighted, so no more back-logs here As far as freightcars go, they now need various levels of weathering - and, dare I say it - graffiti!! (but very limited). But next job is more tracklaying, so we have more places to run these weighted cars They certainly track very much better, and we don't have to organise the cars to run the lightest at the back. Well worth the effort, especially if you have steep grades. (Ours has 3% grades on 12" curves). ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
With old posts being resurrected, I thought I would look back at some more of mine. I bet this is still true, and there are lots of locos/cars awaiting details/weathering, etc.
