08 Mar 2006 Denmark, SC. Here was the place to see three raillines cross and interchange. The SAL main line between Columbia, SC and Savannah, Ga. The ACL main line between Florence, SC and Augusta, Ga. and the SOU main line between Charleston, SC and Augusta, Ga. Any one out there with good memories you would like to share. Larry @ SCRS.
09 MAR 2006 Good morning Boxcab E50. The Southern (NS) is gone, however the ACL and SAL (both CSX) are still there to the best of my knowledge. The old Southern line was the original South Carolina Canal and Railroad line - a very much hertiage line. http://www.arete-designs.com/shultz/scrr/index.html LARRY @ SCRS
I knew early on that Denmark, S.C. existed (along with Switzerland and Norway S.C.), but it was really drawn to my attention when the "Silver Meteor" derailed nearby. I knew that Seaboard would likely detour their passenger trains by the East Carolina line. I couldn't get a chance to railfan until Sunday afternoon, but Sunday afternoon I watched three E units and 18 cars pass the Grove Street station, all the cars were stainless. Quite a treat for a guy used to a 2 or 3 car "Boll Weevil".

Wow! I would have enjoyed being there with you. Seeing the Meteor crossing the Ashley would have been great, then Grove Street, then out to Reynolds and Spruill Avenue. That would have been a super railfan day. I did see the meteor at Denmark as well as the Augusta section of the Champion. Larry @ SCRS.
Larry - The "Silver Meteor" was south-bound, so as you know, the sequence was the reverse. I still don't remember why I picked Grove St. instead of DuPont's Crossing. Seem to remember going to Cooper yard first, then down into the city, and I was actually in my car when the train passed, but it was sure something to see that train on the curve north of the Citadel. The way freights accelerated once they were south of the Ashley River, bet that passenger as half-way to Savannah by the time I did get to DuPont's. I've tried several times to find out more about that wreck at Denmark, but couldn't even find it in the ICC index.
