I thought I would make a little picture and testimonial review of Deluxe's new cast metal Lo Pac cars. These car came in the same foam lined package as their Twin-stack sets, minus the weights included with the Twin-stacks. Right out of the box I was very impressed with all the detail on these cars. The ribs on the side of the car obscured some of the printing but when these have been weathered a little and are moving by quikly on a Z train on your layout, you probably won't notice. The cars come in a 5 unit set which cannot be seperated. If I had my way, Deluxe would supply these cars with Micro Trains trucks and couplers (even if the price did go up accordingly), but they come with the Intermountain trucks and couplers which in my opinion, don't roll or work worth a damn (compared to MT). Although this set is a lot like Walthers, the etched metal walkways really make the model. The wells can hold nothing bigger then 40' containers but larger containers can be placed on top of those.

To make a long story short, these are AWESOME cars that are well worth the money, and will add another aspect to N scale intermodel trains.

Keep in mind that my 5 car set has been weathered.

    (sorry about this bad picture)

    Awesome etched metal detail!

This shot shows one end which I detailed by bending the four grab irons outward (this can also be done on twin stacks).

They are out Garth, but no stores that I know of have announced that they have them yet.

It helps having good friends in the hobby! :D :D (thats why I have mine)

Our shop got them in yesterday. Nice, but I'm having a little trouble with the $89 price tag. Even with my discount I don't think I'll bite on these. :(

I saw a set at a train show last weekend and I saw a set on ebay this afternoon.

They look great but what about the 53' spine cars? Alan could have blown them out of the water by now.

In the early part of next year, watch out for my cast and etched metal 3-unit 48ft well cars [IMG]

And yeah! I could have had the spine cars out about six months ago, at least!

I bought a set on ebay for $71.95. Seemed like a reasonable price to me. I am currenly awaiting it's arrival. Thanks for the review Craig.

I just got two sets as well. They are beauties, and a long overdue addition to N-Scale railroading.

    Thanks to Deluxe! [IMG]

These are the old InterRail cars rejigged by deLuxe, I reckon. The cast handgrabs have been replaced with etches (integral with the end walkways) but the rest looks the same, including the cast air brake equipment.

The originals looked good, though a little heavy on the paint, and ran well with a good articulated joint design. I would expect deLuxe's version to do exactly the same.
Hopefully the refrigerated (red) set will become available too.

    Gary.
