Nice to see DI containers again! I know I've got the Dole on order, and probably some of container chassis, too.
Dave, any news on when we will see the NKP covered hoppers ? I ordered these two and a half years ago.
The covered hopper tooling is still being held by the old factory. We have tried everything imaginable within reason to get them to allow our new factory rep to inspect the molds but they just are not cooperating. So, I have no idea when any covered hoppers will be made. It has been almost 2 years since they fired us as a customer and still no luck. Dave
The Maxi-IV tooling needed to be modified to run properly with the BLMA trucks. We were told the changes would be completed by 3/20 but on 3/21 an email told us mid-April was the new completion date. So I hope they will be on dealer shelves in May. And I also want to remind you that the cars will have BLMA trucks but the wheels are to our own specifications. The tread is wider and the flange deeper than BLMA wheels. Our wheels are close to the Fox Valley medium tread wheels. Dave
BLMA trucks but not BLMA wheels? Does that mean they will have 38" wheels on the articulated section? FVM wheels only come in standard and wide tread not medium tread wheels. If they're going to be like the wide tread wheels I think it's a bit of a let down to have such a nicely detailed car with body mounted couplers and BLMA's superior trucks with a toy looking wide tread big flange wheel on it.
I'm okay with toy looking wide thread big flange wheels. Less trouble running over switches. My BLMA reefers are very picky about staying on the rails.
ATSF5078, We specified a medium tread and flange that will perform better than a "proto 160" tread and flange but will look much better than a "toy-like" wheel. I was sure there was a "medium tread" FVM wheel but I don't see one on their website. Traindork hit the nail on the head as to why we are not using the BLMA wheels. We want the cars to run on just about every layout out there. Dave
I for one appreciate that Dave. Its nice to see a manufacture NOT bending to the demands of rivet counters...collectors...and photographers who demand "Prototypical everything". There are runners out here amoungst us.
Oh, I forgot to confirm that the intermediate trucks will have 38" wheels. We are also looking into selling the 38" wheels separately in bags of 12. Stay tuned. Dave
Thats good to hear the Maxi IV are moving along. Any chance any 53' containers coming to fill them with? Going to be real tough to fill them with virtually no stock left in either leftover DI ones, or any 2 packs from Kato. Bittersweet I guess...
