May of 2018, I posted a thread regarding my build of a coke unit for the Ewing Oil & Refining Company. Many of you had very nice positive comments and suggestions that were / are very much appreciated. So I am posting an update as of yesterday. This was made on the Southern New Mexico N Scalers layout in Las Cruces during our monthly run day.

You can see the coker unit is about to be slowed way down. Seems the railroad has failed to make a switch to pull loads and spot empties. Sounds like my work days in dealing with the SP (ouch)...........

Great work Carl! It all looks really interesting and looks like it would be fun to operate.

    Surprisingly clean for a coker.

    bill,

you are certainly correct. Another couple of good Southern New Mexico / West Texas dust storms and that will change somewhat. If not, I may blow some graphite around the drum and piping and/or use some neolube to dirty it up. Good hint, thanks.

Don't forget, the hoppers should be mostly black. I think a lot of them are painted black, like carbon black cars, so that the inevitable black coating isn't noticeable. If not, they sure get that way.
