I just got my Zephyr last night.Sweet EH! :D
I let the smoke out of 2 of 3 decoders this morning. Not sweet EH! :( [IMG]
One smoked, the other one never really did much,So I am not sure if it is salvageable. When I try to read back the address the LEDS flash, but 000 comes up on the screen.I tried that in Page mode for 2 and 4 digit addressing. When I try to write a new address, everything looks like it worked, but nothing responds and it won't let me read back and confirm the changes took place.I am using DN163 decoders.Should I try programming in a diffrent mode,or do ya think this decoder is toast? :(
Oh,PS.The decoder I smoked was a LENZ Decoder that came with a SD60.I think one of the motor leads touched the frame, and away it went! I now have tape over the frame to prevent future disasters.(I hope)

The way to smoke a decoder every time, is to let the motor treminals (Orange or Gray wires) touch anything. Always tripple check that they are not shorted.

Everyone lets the smoke out of a decoder or 2, so I try to buy Lenz decoders because of their no questions asked replacement policy. :D

Paul.I assume you read the instructions before your installs.I thought the whole "Put a piece of electrical tape over key parts of the frame" was a recomendation, not really nessesity.I found out it is most nessesary.Won't make that mistake again. If I smoke another decoder,it won't be because I didn't tape the frame! Now I have another question,so I'll post it as a new topic.
