Now I have an interesting predicament. Years a go I purchased new from a lLHS an HO atlas RSD 4/5. Finally got around to installing a decoder in it. Took the shell off to start working on it and found a soundtraxx tsunami staring at me. Looks like the install was never finished. There is no speaker. Any ideas where to put one in this model? I took the fuel tank off and not space in there for one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What about a speaker in the cab roof? I think Streamlined Backshop has rounded speaker baffles for that purpose. Otherwise, you will be cutting weight out, which may interfere with headlight mounting.
The cab is blind? That's tough. It looks like the narrow hood passes all the way though the cab, basically making the long hood and short hood one piece. is there still space between the top of the hood and the bottom of the can roof. You could still try to sandwich a speaker up in there, but I'm not sure how well it would sound. Here's the link the the SBS part: https://store.sbs4dcc.com/SBS4DCCSugarCubeSpeaker11x15mm8ohm1wattw/HOCabRoofSoundCham.aspx They give the dimensions, so you could try to fabricate a mockup from styrene to test fit it You may be able to do a bit of cutting or drilling, but I'm not sure what those clips are holding down, and you would also need to figure out how to route the wires to the decoder.
Bet you could fit a 11 X 15 sugar cube over the front or rear truck if you milled off the top of the weight that fits over the trucks.
I'd try speakers in the upright voids of the cab. Just make some holes so the wires can pass through the inner shell and that is all the mods you'd have to make. Make some gaskets out of double sided foam tape and stick some 8x15mm speakers directly to the outer cab shell and the body now becomes part of the speaker baffle/resonator. A speaker on each side wired in parallel would give you 4 ohm impedance which most decoders can handle just fine as long as you don't turn up the volume settings too high. Zimo 8x15 speakers with sound chamber already have the gasket if you carefully separate them from the chamber they come with.
