    Hey everyone,
I have a set of Testor's decal setting solutions, the 2 bottle set. I was curious, will it destroy my N microscale decals? Should I stick to what I know, aka, Microscales' own solution: Micro Set/Sol?
    What's your conclusions?

I've always used Micro-set.I think its best to use what the decal manufacturer reccomends. Never tried the testors stuff though....Mike [IMG]

I have a bottle of Solvaset that's so old it shows made by Hobsco (which was a Walthers' subsidiary years ago) that I still use on all decals, but I don't apply it until the decal is firmly set.

Hey Gregg, it must not take much of a drop to set a decal, or did you buy it in the gallon size jug? How do you apply it, with a tooth pic? I haven't done any decals for years, so am not aware of how it is applied. Does it make a decal form around rivet detail? Could you give me a walk through? Is it some kind of solvent? Thanks. :D

    Watash,
Yes its a solvent to make the decals conform to ANY surface irregular or not. Once applied, and left set awhile it is hard to remove any decals applyied after the setting solution is dry. I use a small "fine" paint brush to apply decal set or solvent.

I'm pretty fond of Champian Decals and their decal set. I use the decal set for any decal thats made that i've used and it doesn't harm the off brand decals. As some other decal sets will distort the decal if the decal set and the decals aren't of the same brand. But i've found that Champian Decal's "decal set" works with any brand name decal.

Once I decal anything wether its a loco or rolling stock I let the project that got a decal job done to it set to "air" dry for 28 to 30 hours, it only calls to set to dry for 24 hours but I like to be on the safe side and let it dry just a few more for precaution. That way I know its ready to have its finish coat of either Testors dullcote or a matte clear finish of some type. Mainly on everything I paint I use Testors dullcote or the Flat finish or matte clear finish of "Testors Model Master". I guess I use those 2 when ever I see what the hobby shop has or my supplier has at the time. The regular Testors dullcote is cheaper in price then the Testors Model Masters is, but they do the same kinda job, and has the same professional look. So in ways I see no difference between the Dullcote and the Flat finish by Testors Model Masters.... :D

    Hemi,
Yes great e-mail address!!!!! And yes again ditch the Testors junk that won't even compare to Microscal's set or sol, and not even come close to Champ's decal set!!! Out of the setting solutions made I have to say that Champ is the best (for me) and the Microscale's set or sol comes right behind Champ's!!! [IMG]

Rock on, guys! Mopars and model railroading are a cool match.

I bought a BEAUTIFULLY decaled BNSF H1 Dash 9 Kato today, and I would like to know what decals to use for the fire extinguisher/ data/build plates/ hi-vis stripes, etc. Is it loco data, or something else? Brent, thanks again. What Microscale decal set did you use to detail that dash 9?
