Silly question time. Can I buy a Zephyr system from USA and will it run here on 240Volts? do they physically plug into the power system, or elsewhere? Thanks
Nope, in a word. The power supply will be for 110V AC where we use 240V AC. Plug it in and watch the sparks fly, literally! You will need a 240/110 step-down transformer of suitable rating in order to use it, and even then it's not an inexpensive proposition. They do supply UK/AU/NZ versions with a 240V supply for these markets, though, but there is usually an inexplicable price hike over the 110V version (probably to cover 'certification' to AS/NZS and CE standards). Probably the best option would be to source a local power supply option for the system that outputs the required voltage to the command station and try to score the rest of the system separately, if available. Mind, if they are supplied with a 100-240V switch mode supply (ie plug it into any power point, anywhere) ex-factory, then I'm talking bollocks! Edit - looks as though you can order a Aussie-certified power supply at an additional cost of US$100 for the lower rated and $121 for the higher rated unit from the US. From Digitrax website. DCS 50 is available without the 110 volt power supply. Most dealers list it. Martin Myers
Go with it and drive locos and not track. Yes buy the Zephyr, check out its imput voltage and buy a transformer locally as we do here in the UK. Mine cost GBP 28. Bill
You can run the Zephyr with the appropriate power supply that you can purchase locally. Stay cool and run steam.....
