Is there a list of new locos that have come from the factory with decoders installed? Or perhaps those that are plug and play?(Atlas/Kato).

A good number of the high end locos that have come out in the last few years are DCC ready. Its kinda rare to see a high-end loco thats not DCC ready (Unless its a tiny engine like the atlas shay).

    Don:

Many of the Atlas loco's come with factory installed Lenz decoders. These are very basic decoders. The DIgitrax DN 163A0 plugn'play decoder fits most of the Atlas diesels.

Some of the new Atlas GP-7's and GP-9's need their frames milled so that a decoder can be installed. These are re-issues and Atlas didn't change the frame design for these loco's.

In the last few years all of the Kato diesels are DCC ready and use various Digitrax plugn'play decoders.

    LIRR:

You can install a decoder in the Atlas two truck Shay with some internal adjustments to the cab and oil bunker.

I like to get my loco with out decoders and get the digitrax decoders. It gives me the option to add extra lights to locos if i want to since the current DN163 serise board all have 6 light outputs. Although I don't mind installing hardwired decoders like the Lenz LE0511 that I use in a number of locos.. [IMG]
