I've finally got the guts to install my first decoder (HO, IHC-steam) but the loco isn't wired for the decoder therefore I need a female 8 pin connector. I understand the connectors are standardized as "NMRA DCC connectors". Can anyone tell me where to purchase them? I tried Walthers and Radio Shack. Thanks, Jim

It should have come with one. My Digitrax did. Pobably your best bet is Loy's Toys.

or you can try tony's train exchange. But by your post it sounds like you've got to find all the correct wires in the loco and then wire them to the decoder harness. If that's the case e-mail me, I got some good tricks you can use.

Thanks for your inputs. I'm installing a MRC decoder which came with good instructions but no female mate. It's a standard electronic 2 x 4 pin 0.100" (2.54mm) connector, so I was hoping to buy a dozen thru an electronic suppler rather than thru a hobby shop, but I no longer have electronic catalogs. I'm pretty sure the price will be a lot lower if I can define a manufacturer and part number via a distributor.
I'll keep searching & take care, Jim

You can try Digikey at www.digikey.com. Also, you might try Jameco at www.jameco.com.

I personally would just cut the male plug off the decoder and hard wire it into the loco. It would probably be just as easy as wiring the female plug. Just a thought.

Thanks for your inputs. I found a source (www.allelectronics.com) that has SIP sockets on 0.1" centers. I need toggle switches as well so I'll give them a try. In reference to eleminating sockets, it is a good suggestion when space is critical as long as the joints are insulated to avoid shorts. I'll pick up the sockets first before disassembling the locos.
    Take care, Jim
