After the night shot, I thought about a daybreak shot (Sun up) 3 truck shay on route to the redwoods.

Looks great Paul. I sure hope yyou do selective logging instead of clearcutting. Have to keep some of the big ones.

Paul. That is beautiful. Reminds me of a camping trip the family made about 30 years ago. We woke up at dawn in the woods and the smell and sights were really something to behold. :D :D :D

    Paul,
The frost is still on the stumps and everything! That is mysterious! I mean really thats some real photography your doing man! I never seen any model railroad so real looking as that picture you just posted is! Did you do some type of shading or contrasting in a picture editing program to make that look like it does? I believe of all your photo's that ONE has to be the most realistic of any I've ever seen knowing that its an HO scale layout!

Paul, your photography is outstanding, especially the depth-of-field. What camera, speed, f-stop, and lighting are you using?

    Hi Hank,
My camera is an Olympus C700 Ultra Zoom.
I custom set the camera to f8 for all my indoor photography, and exposure time is around the 12 second mark. The focus is somewhere near the middle of the photo.

Lighting is Fluorescent Daylight Tubes (Phillips TLD 58watt) I have 8 of these on the ceiling.

Paul, another question regarding your excellent depth-of-field ... were you using telephoto with the f-8 setting, standing back from the subject? I thought of this looking at your photo again after you answered my original question. I also use f-8, but I can only get a 3-4 inch depth-of-field using wide-angle and a macro or 20 inch fixed focus.

    Hi Hank,
No, I was not using telephoto or macro for this shot, only ever use macro for close=up work i.e. 2" to 5" work.

I didn't realise you were using a 35mm camera, put a 28mm wide-angle and f22, set the B stop and make sure you have a button release cable. Sit the camera on a tripod, and take a few photo's each at a different time setting. Start at 3 seconds and move up each frame by 1/2 second exposure to around 12 seconds. If you have enough lighting, then I would expect you to have at least one good photo out of a roll of film.

Let me know what camera/lighting you are using in your room, and I will help you get some good photo's.

    Cheers friend.

I like the way that the older, thicker trees are now stumps, and the younger ones are tall and green. It's these little details that add to the realism of a layout.

I'll ask again. Paul, can you come build mine next? :D
