Anyone catch any good shots of the Davidson Special through Cajon Pass this weekend? I'll try to post mine in a day or two...

Here's a photo of the Special approaching Summit. My kid must've smeared a booger on the lens because all my photos came out a little blurry.

We also went up to Frost and caught some intermodal action...

And then back to Summit to take some photos at the garden...

And Drew, Geocities won't let you use their site for image hosting. You've got to create an index.html page and then link everyone to there. Otherwise, try your RailsUSA site.

Isn't he is the CEO of the Union Pacific Railroad? That would make the Davidson Special a VIP train! (Or is that VIT?) :D Note the American flags on the sides of the engines...the new patriotic look of the Union Pacific.

    Alan,
Here is a web page with the details. Davidson is the big cheese, and his train was doing the speed limit the whole way! Strange thing was, he was on the BNSF right of way when there was perfectly good UP tracks a hundred yards away. We waited at the UP bridge at Devore for him, and he shot by on the BNSF tracks. It was a great day for railfaning though.

Thanks Rett and Ed. Thought he must be important :D

I am not keen on those flags on the locomotives, I hope it is not to be a widespread feature?

Alan, not only are all the new units getting them.but over time every UP unit will recieve these new flags. (Info found at www.trains.com) so they are here to say. I don't know if you remember during the gulf war, all BN units and alot of others as well had small US flags on the cabs. With this attack being on US soil, large flags are more approprate....Thanks Davidson great Idea!
Yes Guys, stick to trains ehh. PLEASE! I would hate to have to leave

I like the flag. I think that it breaks up the monotony of the age old yellow and grey. BUT, I have to agree with everyone else here. Our flag is to be treated with respect. Watching it get grimy and soiled and not taking care of it is not a sign of patriotism. Anyway, the UP has been flying the red/white and blue in their crest for decades!

Well since UP announced they will try to keep the units clean, (this was brought up to Bromley at trainorders some time ago) I dont think we will have to worry much about seeing a UP flag being black like a SP unit,

Besides, this will only last around a year to start with. That decal must cost a fortune (remeber, UP is already doing away with wings partly due to cost), So unless UP is in some kinda long term swing of sorts, I dont see them lasting more than a year.

Well I think the American Flag on the side of the engine is a nice gesture.
But I think that if you (UP) do that, then the locos should be kept clean, especially the flag.
I live in the Southeast and we have the NS & CSX down here, the CSX runs very clean locos, very shiny all the time and the NS locos are grime-ridden.
But w/UP they have several 1000 locos & several 1000s of miles, so it would be harder to keep it clean.
I like the Flag on the side of the loco for a yr or 2, so long as it is kept clean.
Maybe UP should only do a few locos w/flags. less to clean.
That is my opinion. do with it what you want.
