Over the last 10 minutes, I've experienced long waits attempting to edit a post of mine resulting in a database error. Yet making new posts seems to work.
I have not seen any errors when John reported this and have been online most the day so I'm betting it was a isolated occurance but it's good to know the time and duration that he posted to check logs against... :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd:
I never tried again. It was in the thread with the Pop/Soda picture. I was trying to add a link to the source and it just would not save the post for anything. Everything else I tried to do worked though.
Sounds like your browser locked up for that particular thread. I've had the same thing happen a number of times. When it happened to me, I saw no flag on the Trainboard side, so I assume the browser (or the kernel or process serving it) went into a panic. Sorry if you lost anything, but I think it probably was not on our database side. Some wag once wrote that dealing with computers was like tying on your shoes and having them blow up once a month or so. We wouldn't tolerate that with our shoes, but we do with our computers.
Well, I admin a vBulletin Board unrelated to Trains and it sure smelled like a server side glitch. Not that I would put it past Firefox to flake out on me. It sure has... Actually, when I see errors like that on my site, it's almost always the host's fault.
I agree, a database error coming out of vBulletin won't be a browser issue... :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd:
This is the same problem I often used to get (and expect to see again). A post with a link wouldn't save, but one without a link would.
