    Hello,
I have a bachmann spectrum dash 8, it is nice looking, runs quite enough and reliably, but its couplers sag and i'm having trouble with it uncoupling at random due to this. Will converting it to microtrains couplers fix this?

Steve I don't know what you have for couplers right now, but I have (2) of these engines with MT couplers on them and I don't have any problem uncoupling.

I find those Rapido couplers have no rhyme or reason for when they come appart. You don't even need a very heavy train to have them separate.I have just in the last few weeks finished replacing all my rapido's with Micro Trains couplers.

The dash 8 is my only piece of equipment that uncouples for no real reason. It has the rapidos that it came with, but i think i will convert it to micro trains, and all my cars too. Lucky i dont have very many [IMG] Which couplers would be appropriate for this unit?

Check out a MT coupler conversion guide. Also I believe there is a pilot conversion that will both fill in the hole and provide the proper coupler (dont know which number). If either of those dont help, then just use a 1015 and some stock plastic then add a plow and some mu hoses and it will look great. Just remember to check the height.

You can get the truck-mounted couplers in packs of 10 for about $3.50 ea. or $35,00 for the pack. At least that's what my club gets them for. ( that's for your cars of course)

The M-T pilot conversion sounds like the cure.... plus you get the added benefit of the filled in pilot. I think the 1164 or 1168 depending on whether it is a 8-40-C or 8-40-CW, according to the Micro-Trains website. Shortcut to the conversion page: http://www.micro-trains.com/ftp/conv.xls
