As per this site Steve CN 2456 was LMS 729 and CN 2462 was LMS 735 . CN - Canadian National Railways Locomotive Roster - Railroad Picture Archives.NET CN/IC 2456 IC 2462 According to this other site there is more !!! http://www.conrailcorp.com/lmsnscsxcn.html Unit LMS 728 to 739 ( 12 units ) became CN 2455 to 2466
yes, yes and yes - but, which one of them is repainted into CN colors ? there was a comment from "odd1rails" about "Not to mention CN repaints" - which one of the ex LMS (LMSX) blue IC/CN C40-8W is repainted into CN colors yet... ?
Atlas comes out with another winner. and coming out in May09 allows enough time to set some asside so it won't hurt but we can still get one/some. The details in N Scale appear to be getting better with each release. No longer the Bald headed stepchild.
OK you guys with the custom locos are killing me...I have to jump in and try this! Those things look awesome. In fact, you have inspired me so much that I will be sure to get a couple of these new C40-8Ws in the undecorated version so I can do custom paint and all the detailing, most likely CSX YN3. I have never done any customization in model railroads but have been building customized 1:144 model airliners for 25 years--so why am I so nervous about this? BTW the undecorated models are DC only; wonder if I can get the DCC decoder that comes in the DCC version for the working ditch light dealies? Jamie
I'm sure Digitrax will come out with a Drop in Decoder that will have enough functions to work the ditch lights. Just make sure to verify the number of functions on the decoder that you choose
On a "Repainted LMSX". I highly doubt that! I am on the Yahoo GELoco and LocoNotes Groups. This past week a discussion arose over some stenciling spoted on the side of one of these said units. "P.B.M. by G.E., Owned by LMSX" The answer was PBM = Power By the Mile and that, they are Still own by GE and are only leased units.... Train1 & Steve 4 - by the way NICE units!!! Jerry G. FCNRwy
This is along the same lines as the comment I made about only two of the three road numbers being available in DCC, surely DCC is popular enough by now for all the road numbers and undec to be available with decoders. I'm sure a good percentage of modellers serious enough to want undecs to repaint would also be using DCC. Hard to know as they haven't been made yet, but if the decoders have seperate LEDs mounted for the ditch lights it might be a tad more difficult to use a standard drop in decoder. Someone must be making the decoders for Atlas, in the past, I think, either Lenz or Digitrax, maybe whoever it is will make them available, decoders may even be available from Atlas's spare parts department after the loco is available.
Lenz makes the decoders for Atlas. All of them, AFAIK. They are not the most high end decoders, but if they come with three LEDS, I might not care. Right now I have too many other locos to convert to want to add to the list. But I'm stilling mulling this over before I place my pre-order. Not knowing the price doesn't help.
well, not anymore I guess, the C40-8W is factory equiped with a NCE DCC Decoder... ...at a MSRP of $179.95 ! (the non DCC ones are $139.95)
Just did the rounds of my favourite online dealers, Chuck at Feather River is listing them for $134.95/$104.95.
Sounds good to me .. I tried some NCE decoders in a couple of my Atlas U25B's. After comparing them with the OEM Lenz decoders, I found the NCE's better performers. Also more compatible with my Digitrax DCC system. BTJMHE(xperience) .. :tb-err:
