Durango & Silverton train station burglarized by Shane Benjamin Herald Staff Writer Article Last Updated; Thursday, March 12, 2009 The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad station was burglarized early Wednesday. The burglary occurred at 1:24 a.m. at 479 Main Ave. The burglar apparently was scared off by an audible alarm, and nothing was immediately found missing, said Sgt. Robert Taylor with the Durango Police Department. When police arrived, they found a door on the east side of the building forced open and a door leading to the gift store opened, Taylor said. Because of the station's size, it took officers several hours to search the building and train yard for suspects. A tracking dog from the Bayfield Marshal's Office was called to assist in the search, which included the rail cars, Taylor said. No suspects were found. Some of the doors on outbuildings were damaged, indicating someone had attempted to gain entry, Taylor said. Efforts to reach a spokeswoman for the railroad were unsuccessful Wednesday afternoon. shane@durangoherald.com
This crime sounds rather amateur. I wonder about it being locals, perhaps druggies and a good chance they are kids. Boxcab E50
