My old man and I drove up to Independence, Ohio this weekend and spent the night Friday night. We had a great dinner at the Bonefish grill before retiring fairly early... On Saturday, the next morning, we drove over and boarded the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad's (Cuyahoga means crooked river) first ever Total Track Tour railfan excursion.

The trip departed Rockside station in Independence and ran the entire CVSR 51 miles to Canton, Ohio.

About 30-40 minutes into the trip, we were given the opportunity to hop off the train for a run-by at one of the depots along the line. It was a fantastic show of power and grace as the engineer gave us two power runbys for photo opportunities. It's a wonderful experience being so close to a pair of F units passing with it's consist at speed. Belching smoke, flashing lights, ringing bell and blaring horn... awesome!

Upon arriving in Canton at approx 12:30 pm, we were given about 3 hours or so to go and see one of four attractions in Canton (Classic Car Museum, Art Museum, Pro Football Hall of Fame, or the National First Lady's Library). We opted for the Classic Car Museum. It's a quaint little museum with about 45 or so interesting cars and a million other oddball memorabilia from around the world.

At 3:30 pm it was boarding time and by 4 pm we were on our way back to Independence, Rockside Station where we arrived to conclude the trip at 7 pm EST.

The scenery was beautiful... and so was the weather! We had a great time! Here's a sample of photos from the trip. I've put a little more than a dozen or more in an album if you want to see more...

Very nice, thanks. The CVSR appears to be an all Alco outfit, is this true?

Yup... except for one SW-8 made by EMD, all their locos were made by Alco or the Montreal Locomotive Works (aka Alco).
