Is there anyone interested in these models? I believe the SDP35's all had their steam generators removed and hoods shortened well before the CSX era... pretty much all that was left was the flat rear hood. I may have few pictures to offer Atlas is making SD35's in N scale, as well as SDP35's in O scale. Trivia question: what roads rostered the SDP35's and how many were produced? Here's a good rear shot of an ex-SCL SDP35. Once the steam generators were removed, they cut down the long hood as well, leaving that lovely seam line. The rear hood is totally flat; in its as built configuration, it came farther back on the frame, requiring use of an anticlimber. Four railroads originally rostered the 35 SDP35s built by EMD. The four roads are Atlantic Coast Line with one unit, Louisville & Nashville with four units, Seaboard Air Line with 20 units, and the Union Pacific with 10 units. Other owners of these units through merger would be Seaboard Coast Line, Seaboard System, and CSX. L&Ns four were unique in that they never had steam generators. The units were purchased to be used with radio control equipment for running remote control helper operations. Trivia Question: How many of these rare locomotives are still in existence and where are they? Hint, check your LocoNotes. ------------------ Cotton Belt: Runs like a Blue Streak
Here's a shot of one from noted photographer Warren Calloway... his unit looks a little fresher than mine: Harold ------------------ Harold Hodnett Fan of NS, CSX, and their predecessors! Coming soon: The North Carolina Railfan Web Site http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/

The one working in Victorville, CA for Southwestern Portland Cement is still there at last report. The other unit extant is the one preserved in Hamlet, NC next to the station. It is painted in a green SAL scheme. ------------------ Cotton Belt: Runs like a Blue Streak
I have that one (somewhere) in my photo collection.... it is not an operating unit, in fact, I think it is just a shell over the trucks. Harold ------------------ Harold Hodnett Fan of NS, CSX, and their predecessors! Coming soon: The North Carolina Railfan Web Site http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/
