Hey guys - Here's the two photos of CSXT 151207, one of the Big Blue cars, that I took in Cumberland in July.

    Dave,
Great photos! I enjoy seeing those boxcars again. The last time I saw them, I was eating lunch at one of my favorite places (that has the tracks running right beside it, of course ) Thanks for posting those photos! [IMG]

A Big Blue car came by yesterday morning, but it looked 3-4 feet taller and 8-10 feet shorter than the cars in the photos. Are there different series of Big Blue cars?

Hank - I think you probably just saw another of these cars from a different angle - it might be hard to judge the length of these cars in the photos we posted, but these are 50 foot high cube (Plate E, I think?) cars. 8-10 feet shorter would be roughly a 40 foot car, of which there aren't many left, and none on CSX that I know of. And these Big Blue cars are almost as tall as they get.

I've see one photo of a 60 foot Big Blue car, but I can't locate it right now. The 60-footers are quite new. I think it's just hard to judge the size of these cars in the photos, so they might look bigger to you than the car you saw in person.

Dave, I'm sure you're right. I don't remember what cars were on either side of Big Blue, but they made it look very short and very tall. Of course at 50 mph, I was lucky to even see that it was a Big Blue :D

    Hank,
Don't feel bad, because I thought I had seen 40' Big Blue cars too! Sometimes it is hard to tell when they are not sandwiched between other boxcars.

THANKS Dave! I was looking for the "Big Blue" box cars for a few weeks to do a modeling project in HO scale! I got a few ole junker 50 footer high cube box cars that are of UP and SP design in paint and all and I want to customize them to CSX "Big Blue" cars! :D I got a few present day diesels and all and no present day rolling stock for the diesels to pull so... I'm making some! :D

Those CSX C44-9W's just don't look right pulling B&O 40 foot cars of coal and box cars and nothing but... So I'm making some polically correct cars for the -9's to pull! :D Thanks! I appreciate it being I couldn't seem to get a good picture with my digital camera, its a slow thing and I have to have anything I take a picture of with it standing still. It will not take a good picture of something on the move... I wish I'da bought a better one! Someday... I will have a good one! :D

I am having a Gunderson high cube boxcar repainted with Big Blue titles. All the pictures I find have single door. Is there a high cube boxcar with double door and Big Blue titles.

    Thanks
