An Airstream-like trailer for sale near here (Bat Cave, NC) has a Southern Railway history and I am wondering if anyone on the Trainboard might know something about this kind of crew car. This trailer was built by The Monocoach Co., I'm guessing in the 50's or 60's. It is all aluminum, including the frame, and appears to have been living quarters for a couple of people, perhaps while on some kind of remote assignment. There is a DMV registration showing SOU RY as the owner and there are several SOU RY operating instruction placards for the stove and heater, etc, riveted on the walls. The trailer is set up to be tied down on a flat car (the door is on the back end) and also used on the highway. Pictures are at photos.yahoo.com/richtrich. Would appreciate any information that might be forthcoming. This unit might make an interesting addition to somebody's (not mine) SOU collection. TIA - John Cudd
Hi John, First, welcome to TrainBoard! I hope someone can answer your question, because I can't. I think you are definately on track (no pun intended) about it being a crew or cabin car. It is probably a forerunner of the trailers that are on the work trains of today. (There was one in Asheville for quite some time). How much do they want for it?? Harold
