It’s been a little quiet here, so I thought that I’d open up with an oddity. In May of 1997, I heard Indianapolis Line talking to a local about the CR Ballast Express coming down the DOW in about an hour. That being the case, I positioned myself at the DOW marker on Cross Street in Anderson IN and waited. Here is the CR Ballast Express Southbound on the DOW - Roger Hensley Photos. and Roger Roger Hensley - rhensley@anderson.cioe.com == http://madisonrails.railfan.net/ == == Railroads of Madison County (Indiana) ==
ahh yes C32-8. nice units. unfotunately since they were orphans they didnt see the maintance that could have made them shine
Roger, Great shots! I think the C32's actually made it through the breakup of Conrail, but I cannot remember their disposition. I saw one on a NS train one day that was in a totally impossible place to photograph Do you know what happened to them? Harold
Harold: Following the breakup of Conrail, 6 of them went to NS and the other four initially went to CSX. Their long term leases expired in 11/99 and CSX chose not to renew the lease, while NS decided to renew the lease for one year and also picked up the lease on the four units that went to CSX. They remained on NS until 11/00 and then they were retired. Last I heard the lessor hadn't found anyone interested in leasing them and they were in storage on NS at Enola. Chris
