I'm sure this has been discussed at some length - at some time - but I need a quick course in CPR coaches.

A friend of mine was visiting Canada recently, a CP modeller from down under, and picked up a set of Kato coaches. The dealer in Toronto told him the CPR colour was ok but the coaches were decidedly American.

Can someone tell me what "major" differences there are/were between the models and the prototype? I expect it's all just window locations. Maybe there is a good web site, with pictures, that I can forward to my Oz buddy.

    Thanks in advance.

The Kato cars are quite bad for Canada, the Con-Cors are alot better. I am going to try and scratch off some specifics now, but I don't know too much.

First, often the Canadian Pacific Railway crest on the side of the car is often in the wrong position, some of the Kato cars are too short (Baggage) and some cars didn't even exist like the RPO and one of the sleeprs. The fluting goes too low on the side, and the truck is incorrect. The diner has some flaws too, I believe.

I will try and find more for you soon, and some better specifics.

    Happy Railroading!

    Dabe ;)

The Con Cor cars are probably closer. Another big difference is that the Kato observation cars are incorrect. They should be the tail-end cars as in the Con Cor models (or so my Canadian friends tell me).
