CP has a speed restriction policy for cold weather operations. When ambiant temperature is less than -25C, trains are to reduce speed to 55 k/hr (35mph) in certain high rail break risk areas. Speed restriction applies to all tracks when the temperature falls below -35C. CP trackside detectors report the ambiant temperature by voice to the train crew. "Reducing train speed reduces the impact of wheels on the rails and reduces the chance of rail fracture." further info - http://tinyurl.com/6wu6f
-35c? What's that, -45F? Either way, I have seen it that cold, and I don't want to again. That's just stupid-cold.... All tracks? I'd guess that also means all trains.
