Just wondering, but...has anyone ever seen a covered hopper with different type roof hatches on the same car? I mean a combination of trough and round hatches on the same car. I would think it would have to have been reconstructed as a result of an accident. Would it be possible to have had both square and round hatches on the same covered hopper? Thanks.
I don't think I have ever seen or heard of a hopper with both types of hatches. It would make for a cool kitbash of a hopper that rolled over and crushed its hatches and was rebuilt. Thom
Not the same thing, but I've seen hatches that were painted different colors, result of a repair I guess. Cool weathering idea.
Totally different roof inserts Flash. Trough hatches run the length of the car as opposed to the round hatches. If a repair was done it would be the same as it was, or completely replaced and reassigned to different service. Steve points out an interesting observation. Grain service trough hatched cars are always getting the hatches broken. They are generally replaced with those at hand which could be painted or not, and sometimes of a different design to the original. Most are fibreglass, from memory, so could be any colour of unpainted gelcoat.
I have another question concerning cover hoppers. Do they still use bay hoppers for grain service. The only ones I see are three bay and four bay. The only low cost hoppers we can get in z scale are two bay.
