Well all the news from our open house event on Saturday wasn't so good. I had spent about 4 nights converting my ConCor passenger cars from Rapido to Micro-Trains couplers. I am currently using an old ConCor Burlington locomotive (Powered A and Dummy B). My problem is after converting the B unit (using the 1128 coupler kit), the coupler height does not match up to the cars. The B unit coupler is about half the height of the knuckle too low. As a result the cars uncouple within a few seconds when running. Since the couplers are truck mounted on both the B-unit and the cars I'm not sure how to adjust the height on either. The good news was that at least the A & B unit lined up OK. Any ideas?
I sounds like you will need to use one of Micro-trains offset coupler styles. By using an offset coupler on your loco it should raise the connection enough to meet the coupler on the first car. (I'm assuming the the car coupler is the correct height to start.) I know that MT's 2001 and 2004 are offset couplers (I use them on SD40-2's) but you may want to be sure that they will fit your situation. If I remember correctly, the 2001 has a long and a short shank coupler, and the 2004 has two short shank couplers. [ 19 November 2001: Message edited by: upguy ]</p>
Those 1128's are junk. Unfortunatly I installed them on every passenger car I own, (26 pairs) before I figured it out. As an experiment recently, I had enough Atlas accumate couplers from new Atlas locos laying around that I body mounted on my 6 Con-Cor Superliners. I wasn't completely sure weather a body mounted coupler would work as some of the curves on my layout are a little tight. I was surprized to find out that they work flawlessly. At least now I have 6 passenger cars that don't come un-coupled constantly. I have plane to convert the rest of them to Micro-Trains reverse draft body mounts.
The 1129 (1128 is a shorter version) normally cause no trouble if they are burnished with grease-em and the draft boxes are beveled by the user (like the manual says)
if the con-cor unit is very old you may be using the wrong conversion. try #1108 or #1049 hopr this will help.
No thanks. Now that I know that body mounts will work, I'm there. I also tried body mounts on my Walthers Cryogenic Reefer cars. and they work slicker than ever.
I have converted all my rolling stock to Micro Train couplers. On one engine I shaved of a fraction on the front and used super glue to attach the couple. This was almost a year ago and I have no trouble with unwanted uncouplings
