Here's a shot of an old 2' gauge industrial loco built by Vulcan Iron Works, Wilkes-Barre, PA, back in 1937

Was this more likely to be a gasoline powered unit or diesel?

I don't see a generator, so I assume we're not talking about using traction motors. What type of drive system did it use (clutch, transmission, etc)?

The unit originally ran on the old Cobos & Furbero industrial line from Tuxpan to Poza Rica Veracruz. When the oil industry in Mexico was nationalized back in 1938, the line became part of Pemex. The loco was on display at the Museum of Technology in Mexico City, but was recently moved. Unfortunately I have no idea of where they moved it (and a few other cars from the same line) to.

And no, it wasn't remote controlled. The satellite dish you see behind the cab is in the background.

    Regards

    Ed

I don't see any spark plug wires, so it may be a Diesel. Most of those small "critters" had a mechanical transmission with two or three gears in each direction. It would have been mounted to the jackshaft under the cab.
