Years ago I read in either RMC or MR about using steel in place of wood for building a layout and instead of plywood, using the foam (2" blue or pink). From what I recall the steel is gaining popularity in home construction. The benefits of this new method was supposed to be a light more humidity resistant layout. Any of you all ever tried this, seen this used or have any thoughts on this?

I'm looking to build a basement empire and have always used lumber before.

    TIA

Have used steel studs for a few projects for others. There are new skills required, and it's not as quick as wood, especially if you have a framing nailer for the wood. I suggest you get a book, or search the internet, for the techniques. It's not rocket science, but it is different. It does not swell/warp with humidity, but it does expand during hot/cold cycles. I like it, but it is very different.
