I decided to take the easy path for the time being and received replacement Rapido style replacement couplers and housings for the rear of the tender. One side snaps in properly, the other does not and leaves the housing atilt. Any ideas short of glue?

    Fotheringill,

My Bachman Consols are in deep storage right now (which means they are underneath the layout instead of on it) because I haven't got around to installing decoders. Underneath the layout is a place that even Frodo Baggins would not want to venture.

I'm guessing, having faced this problem before on other projects, that you have the wrong housings. Have you tried engaging all the tabs in the slots ever so lightly, then hitting it with a sledgehammer? [IMG]

I mean, sometimes the housing will not fit properly if one side is engaged and the other is not--they go straight in or they don't go at all.

"replacement Rapido style replacement couplers"? Is this legalese? [IMG] It does make sense!

It is, indeed, legalese if we are going to hereinabovereferredto couplers.
I hope to hell they are the right couplers since I paid Bachmann for them.

Just because you bought them does not mean they are the correct couplers or housings. I suspect that, if they don't fit correctly after some judicious application of force, they are not the correct ones.

The abovehereinafterreferredtoreplacement couplers may not replace what you want them to replace. Victor Borge anyone?

BTW- A real lawyer would NEVER write hereinabovereferredto replacement since many people think we get paid by the word and not for the monumental thoughts that eminate from our heads.

    He he!

I'm a writer. It would take at least three sentences to explain "hereinabovereferredtoreplacement," so I'd use both. My most common problem is too many words; my toughest problem is too few words. How do I write a borchure about a micro-spring when the inventor says, "Well, it's a micro-spring. It does micro-spring stuff"?
    "Which are?"
    "That's proprietary."

I think getting clues out of Paul Graf is sometimes easier than some of my assignments.

    Mark:

It's so easy to put on a MT 2004-1.

Just use a exacto to level the surface on the tender.

Use a small #70 twist drill to tap a hole and screw in the MT 2004-1.

You can use a little CA using a common pin to deposit the CA at the tender base and the coupler....

Stay cool and run steam.....with MT 2004 couplers on your tenders for the 2-8-0...... [IMG]
