i'm going to add some target signals to my (inprocess) layout. i'm not TOO worried about prototype practice, but would like something with working red/green light to let me know what routes and switch directions are chosen. these will be very tiny signals for which i plan to use nano LEDs (0402) from Ngineering.

i've seen the power supplies they offer, and one of the gizmos that keeps a constant current for a certain number of LEDs in series; and i think i can do the fine soldering (but advice and suggestion are definately welcome).

what i don't get is how to hook them up to the tracks. do i use a mechanical device attached to the thrown switch to toggle from one color to the other? i assume then, that means running power from supply to light via the mechanical switch.

is there a more elegant way?

    thanks for you help,

ha ha ha ... i just saw that! do you have tips, chris?

i'm think i can squeeze two of the nanos side by side in the back of the target signal, and run one red, the other green.

    Dave,
Sorry I won't be much help. I'm pretty sure 2 LEDs will fit easy inside the bigger tubing, possibly 3 LEDs! and magnet wire should fit in the post as well, you could use 1 wire for all the negatives and a separate wire for each positive. As for detection there are many ways, but none I have done myself. There are reed switches and magnets or lights and photo cells. Anything would need some sort of circuit.

If you want simple just wire up a resistor and a toggle switch to your power pack.
