I am looking at getting a concor S-2 (latter version, not kato) to bash into a GS-1. I realize the drivers are 2.5 scale inches to big (MRR measured them at 76" in wheras the GS-1 had 73 1/2" and the GS-4's had 80"). It will need air compressors and tanks moved around, steam dome moved and the pilot truck hacked, plus a different tender (I can use the one on it for another P-10, yipee) and other minor mods to get close to a GS-1. I do have a GS-3 (wp gs-6) and it runs ok. Any opinions would be great.

The latter Con-Cor S-2 is an adequate runner. The running qualities are similar to a good-running Con-Cor built Hudson. Pulling power not up to the Kato built one but adequate. It will pull the 10 car Kato Daylight on a 2 percent grade with no problem. The Kato built S-2 will pull 30 or more heavyweights on the same grade.

A smokebox front from a RR Pacific can be used by a slight alteration of the smokebox opening. It has been a while so I don't remember the exact alteration. May have just been beveling the opening, but I just don't remember.
