I was lucky with the con cor sets. It hadn't happened to those, because I got them from a big collector that kept them in a climate controlled room. I have first hand seen it with other sets though. It was mostly a Con Cor thing, but not entirely. I lost an $800 Brass steam locomotive due to that though. It was from the same era, and was using the same foam Con Cor used in the box. I was in storage for years, and when I opened it up (I bought it in a "lot" from another collector) it was just the loco flopping around in a box full of sticky goo and crumbs. The foam completle decomposed, and ruined the finish on the loco, as well as gummed up the inner works, from even getting in there.

It looks like prices vary widely on these sets. I have seen them as high as $300 but this BN Executive Set is only like $145.00. I saw the New Haven set with the PAs go for $175 locally a few months ago.

It does depend on the set. I have seen some of them go for as little as $100, and like you seen others go for $300. Some of them are more rare than others. I have seen the MoPac set go for around $200. I remember the Chessie safety set used to be very sought after and sell for over $300. I also had that Chessie set and sold it for $250 a couple years ago. The Union Pac Overland set was another good seller out of the sets I had, and I got $250 for that one too if my memory serves.

It's arrived! And I like it.

The DL-109 loco was a little cranky and tired when first put on the track. But she soon started pulling real nice. After a half hour zooming around my pike it's running like a watch.

The paint and details of course don't hold up to what's coming out today, but that's what's neat about this train. It’s a cool antique rolling real smooth on my track. Nice.

My favorite things about it are the colors and the pointy nose on the loco. Love the pointy nose.

Was it worth 162 bucks? The world may never know. It was for me... today. It was fun running it and I had a blast trying to get some reasonable shots of it with my point and shoot. The three shots above were probably numbers 50, 51 and 52.

Cool. I've always loved the colors of that set. I also love the 109. I have a couple Life Like DL109s in Rock Island Rocket livery, and love the looks of those pulling my RI Golden State cars.. It's just long and classy looking.. Nice score.
