Hey guys, I've spent some time reading through old posts about layouts with a computer interface. Most are outdated, and with the usual shift of members in and out, I figured there might be a lot of new members with insight on the topic. So I'm hoping there are more than a couple of members who can share photos, trials and tribulations, etc. on a layout with any sort of computer control. I am a Macintosh guy. So I have a PowerBook notebook and I plan on purchasing a Locobuffer USB to connect the notebook to my Digitrax Zephyr. I stumbled upon a free Mac application that has throttle control and turnout control functions called Mac n Trax. As far as I can tell it lacks programming which to me would be a lifesaver. Possible upgrades I could do to the setup would be to mount a Mac Mini under the layout and get a small touchscreen LCD.
Dave For programming check out this site. JMRI and DECODERPRO The application is JAVA based and should run on a MAC with no issues that I am aware of.
Owen thank you! I had heard of JMRI and Decoder Pro but ignored it because I thought it was Windows only!!! Doh! *Slaps head*
Dave, Here is a link to my Blog where I chronicled my painful adventures with train software. I am currently a CTI_Electronics happy camper customer with 3 trains automated. Joe http://wwwjoe-daddy.blogspot.com/2007/01/computer-control-painful-first-steps.html
