According to a report from my friend Olin who visited the Colusa & Lake roundhouse in Colusa,CA friday, the roundhouse is finally coming down. Last time I visited, it was in extremely bad shape and I was surprised it still stood at that time. Seems no historical groups are interested in trying to save anything of the narrow guage 4 stall structure though I've heard extensive measurements and drawing have been made of it for a replica at some future point somewhere. A real shame. This is a really neat building.
Where in Colusa is/was the round house located? Its a shame it is coming down. I'm surprised that it lasted this long, especially for such an obscure and short lived narrow gauge railroad. Do you happen to have any photos of the structure?
Without a map handy, I can only say it is near the large water towers and pretty well hidden by other building including one that sits where the turntable would have been. I have a couple pics but I'll have to find them and scan them. Here is a link to Olin Andersons post on the Narrow Guage Discussion Forum that includes his shots from Friday. http://ngdiscussion.net/phorum/read.php?1,127476,127565#msg-127565 (The shots were taken with Herb Tanimoto's iPhone by either Herb or Olin, I don't know.)
I wonder if there is anything which might be salvaged, should any future reproduction come about? Just for the sake of nostalgia... Boxcab E50
