Can anyone tell me what year Milwaukee Road started using Union Pacific colors and when did they stop? Another question, Why did they start at all?
The Milwaukee Road started using UP colors on their passenger trains in 1960. This was the year UP switched the Chicago connection at Omaha from C&NW to MILW. MILW's passenger engines stayed in UP yellow until after the creation of Amtrak, when they were either retired, rebuilt or repainted to black and orange. I think I'm pretty close on the beginning date... Pat
Andy- If memory serves me correctly, they were repainted into the UP "Cities" colors in 1956. Most, but not all locos so painted retained the colors. The GP9TT were repainted back into org/blk. As were the FP45's. A pair of 2 unit boxcabs (E22A&B, E23A&B) that wore the yellow, were repainted back into the two color freight scheme. The Bipolars were retired in the yellow. Several FM's (H12-44?) were painted. Too tired tonight to think of more, if any. Boxcab E50
Hey Guy's, Thanks for getting back so quick. I seen photo's of engines and passenger cars with the colors but I wasn't quit sure why they were painted that way and still had the MR hearld!!
