I can hardly believe the news hasn't reached here yet. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=151299 I really like it. It's the most coherent heritage scheme yet. It has something of the different-color front and back that the others have, but this time it really works with the lightning stripe. It also doesn't have to suffer with multiple logos.
That's really nice, even better than the Rio Grande unit. For someone who doesn't give a poo about diesels, I am now looking forward to the SP unit. Bloody nose? Black Widow? :teeth:
Great looking paint. Looks like a modern take of the last scheme. Can't wait for the Southern Pacific next month. I am surprized they left the employee owned on the front logo but removed it from the logos on the sides.
That looks great I dont think there will be many CNW fans who will be disappointed. Is the SP unit the last to be released? I wonder if there are any plans to have all the fallen flags locomotives photographed together?
Well...Its the most "realistic" heritage scheme. That being said, it is pretty boring. Like most have said, it's just a modern version of the lightning bolt scheme. Would look neat lashed up with the last two CNW units though. Heard they (UP) were going to do that too. We need pics!! Ok, so bring on the SP unit!!
I have to say I reckon the scheme is a bit disappointing considering the previous renditions, including the Rio Grande unit. It's almost as though not much thought went into it.
And Uncle Pete NAILS the landing! C&NW has been green & yellow almost since diesels hit the property. Granted, the paint scheme they had wasn't flashy, but it did the job. I think UP got this one right- even better than the North Western coulda done it This is quite reminiscent of the last G/Y scheme, and not a drop of that Gawd-awful Zito yellow......... This scheme is even better than the Katy rendition, IMO......
I didn't even look closely enough to notice that... They did put both versions of the CNW logo. There was some UP publicity document (?) dealing with the heritage units that had thumbnails of the color scheme for each. The SP thumbnail was red and orange.
I haven't seen the PR doc on that, but I was at the Rio Grande unveiling and snapped pictures of the banners they had strung up at the event. Each banner was based to some degree on the scheme designed by Bailey Lauerman, the design firm handling the heritage units. The pictures are here: UP Is Tipping Its Hand. As you can see, the SP banner looks more Sunset than Black Widow.
So far the most "realistic" paint scheme if I may go that far. Something that looks like the evolution of the CNW paint scheme if the CNW was allowed to carry on. Realistic meaning it would not cost a fortune to paint and maintain a fleet of locomotives in this scheme. I really hope they do the Daylight colors justice as the SP Daylight colors are one of the most iconic paint schemes of all time.
I really do like how this one turned out, like BNSF7173 said, seems a bit more realistic than the rest. For some reason, Im expecting a bloody nose daylightish scheme. Edit- Hey cool, John was right! http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=151450 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=151472
I'm sorta with John and Gary, it's pretty boring. I've liked every version so far (some are better than others, but I've liked them all) - all of those were original (stylistic) takes on the 'heritage' of the predecessor roads - but i'm not seeing the originality (or the style) in this one. Maybe it's just me. Roll on the SP one.
