I tested the tuntable out by connecting it to a small motor, a Lenz reverse loop module and the Lenz DCC command station and it works very nicely. I'm happy that all the electrical connections on the CMR turntable are operational. There is enough weight on the bridge ends so the wheel assemblies are in constant contact with the turntable pit guide rail. When the module for the turntable is completely built, I'll install it and take some photo's. I highly recommend the CMR 135' or 105' turntable kit. It is a fine product and the end result is a working turntable in N scale. Stay cool and run steam.....
great series. Although I have to admit, for now I'm staying with my Walthers turntable. I look forward to the day of doing your level of modeling.
What an excellent project! It's been great fun following along. The results are top notch! Thanks for the write up. And am looking forward to photos of this installed on a module. Boxcab E50
Paul: Thanks for your input. I appreciate your comments. When the turntable module is added to the layout, I most certainly will post some pictures. As of now, I'm developing the entrance from the JJJ&E to the turntable module. I am mulling over several trackplan ideas that I want to incorporate into the module with the space limitations I have in the approximately 3x4' area I have to work with. Stay cool and run steam...
This afternoon, I started to build the module for the CMR turntable addition to the JJJ&E. The module will be 48"x30" and will be perpendicular to the main JJJ&E layout . The JJJ&E will now have the shape of an inverted "L" and the turntable and engine facility will be readily accessible for viewing etc. I'm going to use an Atlas Roundhouse and also plan on using the N Scale Architect engine facilities kit, Somerville Jct. I hope to use two Atlas Roundhouse kits on this module with six stalls. I will have to see how the turntable and the approach to the TT lays out first. I will continue to post photo's of the module as I work on it. Stay cool and run steam..... [ 13. November 2004, 22:32: Message edited by: Powersteamguy1790 ]
Wow! That's a nice photo. Love the coaling tower, and the background. I've downloaded this thread for the day I get to working on the TT. Right now I have only two 4-8-2s converted to DCC. It's just past noon, and I've got my track problems fixed around the layout, so maybe later this afternoon I'll start on the 2-8-8-2s and 2-8-0s. Then I'll have to power up all the roundhouse tracks, which are "off-line" right now while I store my DC steam inside. Great work, and I can wait to see the extension.
Great thread Bob! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with this. I probably don't have either the time or patience to take on such a challenge, but it's always nice to see others' work.
Pete: The CMR turntable is what you need for reliable operation in your turntable area. With all those roundhouse stalls you need the CMR turntable. Jack: You're doing a great job on your module thread. The module looks great so far..... Stay cool and run steam....
Well, I finished building the wood frame for the the turntable module. Tomorrow, I sand the frame down and paint it a flat black finish, the color of the framework of the JJJ&E. If I was 30 years old, I would have had it sanded , painted and had track laid by now. Stay cool and run steam...
