Here are some pics taken of the Challenger in Texas while enroute to the Super Bowl in Houston. This is a pic of the loco waiting to leave on sunday morning around 10:45am in Corsicana Tx. The second pic is the Challenger leaving headed south bound. I wish they made a people filter, lol The last pic was taken at track speed on the line between Richland and Wortham, Tx. Enroute to Hearne tx. The last is out of focus, drives me nuts. This new digital camera is a lil tricky to use. adios wyatt
If you could pefect such a device, you'd be richer than Bill Gates! Thanks for posting the photos! Boxcab E50
I like it Hence my display name... By the way, NICE shots, and I do agree, we need "people filters" for our cameras Matt
Wyatt, thanks for posting those!! We need more steam fans here. I agree about the people filter, but on the other hand, it shows the interest in steam among the general public. Nice shots. Keep contributing.
Great shots, with or without people Sometimes if there are a lot of folks around, it can be better to back off a bit and include the crowd!
Great pics of a great steamer! Well, with running it for us to see and appreciate, U.P. ain't ALL bad!!!
Railfans deserve some recognition, too. However, they do tend to get in the way at times, as in the first picture. However, I believe they fit rather well in the second shot. All three are excellent pix. We can never get enough of steam.
Do you know where the train originated from and what cities north of Corsicana did it go through? Was it anywhere near Dallas? Thomas
Corsicana was basically about the closest the Challenger came to Dallas. Here's info on the trip. UP Super Bowl Special And here's a shot I took, standing right next to Wyatt no less!!!
A cloudy day in Houston today. However not may folks around so did not have to put the "people filter" on the camera
Howdy, I put a page up with some of my photos of the UP Challenger if any of you guys would like to take a look: http://trainpix.homestead.com/Challenger/UPChallenger.html
Bitterly cold weather makes for a spectacular steam show! UP 3985, as she nears Archer, WY: And in Cheyenne, putting the short train to bed:
Russell and Jeremiah, nice shots. This thread has great coverage of that trip. We sure hope to see more like this in the future. Keep your cameras loaded and handy! Thanks to all of you.
Excellent shots!! I was fortunate to shoot the 3985 in Longview, TX in 1992 and McAlester, OK in 1995. The boys were scared of the hissing and heat from the firebox, but after I got them to touch the cowcatcher-type pilot, they were less scared. BTW, am I the only one here to get the irony of a machine named Challenger visiting Houston?? (think NASA, which is just down the road, and is an awesome place to visit....)
