Reports have NRE,Dixmoor just completing a genset for the California Northern. She is a 3GS21B wearing RailAmerica Red, White & Blue and number 501. Lettered for California Northern. S/n is 058-0179. I've seen no pics so far but can't wait for her to get here. :D

Paint-wise, DGNO's Gensets look better in their gray over red- matter of fact, so do the Ft. Worth & Western units.

However, paint don't pull tonnage, which explains all those crappy-looking rent-a-wrecks RailGenerica uses elsewhere.

Now, if they were to change those blue & red stripes to, say, Mandarin orange, we'd have something.....:tb-biggrin::tb-biggrin::tb-biggrin::tb-biggrin:

I have to say I'm disappointed. The CalNorthern and AZRC schemes are MUCH better than the RailAmerica scheme. Homogenious schemes so they can send them all over without repainting them I guess. I won't be modelling that one.

Guys, I know you're dissapointed, but since RailAmerica made it plainly clear that no new power was to be acquired in anything but that scheme, I'm not quite sure where whining about it is going to do any good. Most of the crews don't particularly like the scheme either, but it is better than the "Captain America" scheme that we were supposed to have.

Well, I don't think railfans really expect our voices to be heard, but we have our opinions anyway. I'll never forgive BNSF for doing away with the Warbonnet. I doubt BNSF management is concerned about this.

May be, but is is necessary to voice that opinion every time a new unit rolls out in the scheme? This is the same "opinion" that was posted when the first new FEC SD70M-2's were rolled out in the scheme and then when the units for the Honda (IIRC) plant were unveiled. It's a given that many people don't like the scheme, so I only see continuing to complain about how this or that scheme is better as whining because Corporate made a decision to unify the corporation's motive power scheme, just as WATCO and G&W have done with their fleets.

Last I checked, it was OK for us to not like something, and voice our opinion about it. If the folks at RA World HQ wish to percieve our comments on RA's colors as whining, hey, no problem. I'm sure the folks in Florida won't lose sleep over our opinions.

Personally, I like the gray-over-red anyway. And with all the rent-a-wrecks running on RA lines, I seriously doubt RA will get 'em all painted over any time soon.

Of course, I like G&W's scheme. Clearly, the people who came up with it had some good color sense. Railamerica is a couple of stars short of looking like a flag threw up on it.

Though I'll be honest, I think it looks better on the Gensets than it does on the 70m-2s.

Another thing about it, and this is not something I think railroads think about, is that what looks good in the Flordia Sun may not look good in Northbay and Wine Country.

I found this especially true with the aformentioned BNSF. The Heritage Schemes and even BN feel much more at home in the Pacific Northwest to me. When I see them rolling through Fullerton, they feel out of place. Not a good color for SoCal.

I guess I just don't see the point in whining every time a new unit rolls out. This just kinda comes from the "it gets old quick" file that I have another current resident - the Commemorative Air Force's current placing of fairly large decals of the CAF logo on their aircraft. I personally don't have a problem with it, although I think it could be executed much better than it has (such as putting it in bright white on a Navy Blue or other dark colored airplane just looks garish). I've gotten tired of the people who are against it saying how they're against it every time someone posts a photograph of a CAF aircraft with the decal on it. It just gets old and to me, I don't see any point in continually stating an opinion that is already well known.

Yes but, in rare instances, some companies have taken public oppinion into consideration. Maybe in railroading a public image doesn't help much to bring more to the bottom line. Still, I'll keep my fingers crossed that they choose another scheme in the future when the economics are better for such things. Yes, paint doesnt pull freight.

Welcome to the internet Can I interest you in starting a discussion on a forum?

In other words, 99% of the internet is stating an opinion that is already well known. That's what it's for.

Not yet but I am mulling around trip plans for early August that would include hunting this unit. :)
