Was able to get a quick trip into Davis today. Caught gensets #502 & 504 parked on the main along with GP15-1s #104, 113, & 108 parked nearby on a siding. Cool stuff!! Dont know where genset #505 was. Pics will be added to my site when possible. :)

Genset #503 should be on property shortly if not already. Reports have it in Bakersfield late yesterday. Also stated she will probably be assigned to Tracy. This means all five gensets are here now. Good hunting y'all. :)

Local railroad’s entire fleet of engines go green

    Posted: Thursday, January 14, 2010 12:00 am

The California Northern Railroad, which operates in the Napa Valley, has converted its entire fleet to environmentally friendly locomotives with the addition of five new N-ViroMotive Gen-Set locomotives.
The purchase of the ultra-low emitting, low-noise, fuel-efficient locomotives from National Railway Equipment Company was made possible by California’s Carl Moyer Memorial Air Quality Standards Attainment Program, which covered 85 percent of the cost.
The new locomotives, which will be in service by mid-January, are certified by the Environmental Protection Agency and meet its three-tier emission standard.
Compared to previous locomotive emissions, they reduce nitrous-oxide and particulate-matter emissions by 85 to 90 percent, providing a substantial reduction in CFNR’s carbon footprint.
“Now that all five of California Northern Railroad’s locomotives are ultra-low emitting and more fuel-efficient, having an average fuel savings of 20 to 30 percent, we are able to further reduce our carbon footprint while continuing to provide customers with efficient means of freight transportation,” said CFNR General Manager Don Seil.

OK that leads me to believe that the GP15s are gone or going? I know that some of them had moved to other RailAmerica subs. Now the rest?

100-103 went to UP quite awhile back now, 105 and 107 went to DGNO and 110 has gone to Puget Sound & Pacific. That leaves 8 GP15s still running around so far. At least three or four are based out of Woodland/Davis along with at least two of the gensets. I havn't heard anything as of yet on the fate of these remaining GP15 units.

I didn't catch a roadnumber, but I saw one of the Cal Northern Gensets as I was driving north on I5 today. It was southbound just south of Arbuckle CA.

Probably 505. From what Im hearing is 505 works Woodland north, 502 & 504 work Woodland to Davis. 503 is Tracy south and 501 is Napa Jct to Fairfield.
