I ran across a couple of CF7's that apparently are still in use on a short line today Anyone else seen any lately or know if others are still active? Harold
There used to be one in a sick-looking CF7 in jade green paint working a coal mine until about 4 years ago., I saw it once, it was replaced by an ex Guilford GP9 and since then CSX has done the switching.
That huge grain facility at Saginaw, TX, south of the interlocking and crossing diamonds, still uses CF7s leased from Rescar. Once in a while, they come out where you can get shots of them. I'm sure there are still shortlines that use CF7s (e.g. Louisiana & Delta, Columbus & Greenville), but I'm not sure if they're still in service, much less on the roster.
Here are the RESCAR units that Friscobob was referencing. This pic is a couple years old but the locomotives are still there. Some enginehouse, huh? [ March 24, 2005, 04:02 PM: Message edited by: Doug A. ]
Here's a link to a pic from Railimages of a Chattanooga & Chickamagua CF7 getting repeair after being hit by a trick at a rail crossing: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=99276 Photo by Jonathan Guy
Ouch! What a rust bucket! One good gust of wind, and it might fall apart! They're certainly not worried about this unit surviving the weather! Boxcab E50

If you go to this site , and scroll down to the ALM and also the Delta Southern, you'll see pics of CF7s in action. The ALM models are in good shape, while the Delta Southern ones are looking a bit raggedy around the edges, IMO
The Unitbeing used as a remote control unit to load coal hoppers is formerly Santa Fe CF7 #2500. It still has numberboard for 2500. It is now a dark jade green color with yellow safety paint around the still. It is a remost unit and has been spray painted for SCPP, what ever that means. Hopefully I'll geta shot of it pretty soon.
