Today in the mail I received my copy of the "Central Headlight" first five years reprinted in magazine form, and including 1970-1974. One of the first articles is on the original NYCS 4-8-4, No. 800, with the high pressure boiler. I didn't realize it was also a three cylinder engine with Gresley valve gear for the third. The book is a little pricey at $35, but it goes to the society. I haven't checked their website to see if it's advertised there. Looking forward to reading all of it in detail.

It's close to Christmas, and I'd like to wish all of you who contribute to the New York Central site a Very Merry Christmas and hope you have a Prosperous and healthy New Year as well. This photo isn't a New York Central locomotive, in fact it's the epitomy of a NON NYC loco, built by Baldwin, but it's pretty and decorated for Christmas, taken last year in Portland at the Holiday Express, reprised again this weekend.

Jim, I can forgive you for a "NON-NYC" locomotive, because #700 is very pretty all done up in her finery.

Merry Christmas to you, and the rest of our NYC Family...including all those poor unfortunates who grew up west of the Harlem, Hudson, and Mohawk Divisions. :bear-rolleyes:
