Was checking out some roster info and looking for some slides to purchase and ran across the following image: Was wondering which CB&Q unit this was?? Maybe #9106?? Can anyone help? Thanks! [ November 02, 2005, 08:36 PM: Message edited by: John Barnhill ]
The 1974-75 BN Annual says the BN 3 was formerly the Q 9106. It was the only 44 tonner to actually see service on the BN, though a few others were renumbered. The 3 was sold in April 1971.
John- By chance did this engine end up on a California short line? Am curious as to what sparked your interest? Boxcab E50
Oh you know me pretty well. Yes, CB&Q 9106 became Burlington #3 thanks to the info above. Next it became Camino, Placerville and Lake Tahoe #102, which is where my interest came in. After that it was sold to Napa Valley RR as #50 and finally on to Sims Metals in Richmond. A buddy of mine happened to run across two slides labeled "BN3 < CP 102" and "< CP 102". Saw the CB&Q paint and put two and two together. Never heard of CPLT 102 having been a Burlington unit till now. Here's a pic of her as CPLT 102 {Andy Thomas}: and here she is at Sims Metals:
Oh quite still in service. No worries, though they did just scrap an ex Arcata & Mad River 44Tonner though.
John- Ted Benson took a beautiful photo of this locomotive departing the Placerville depot with empties for Camino. This photo is dated 24 April 1972. In the photo the locomotive still wears full CB&Q paint, with "CB&Q" stenciled on the top of the hood to the right of the headlight at "BN" with a "3" on the other side of the headlight. There is a big "BN 3" stenciled below the Burlington Route logo below the cab window. This photo appears in Ted's book One Track Mind, which can be had for less than $20 now if you look in the right place. Jeff Moore Elko, NV
