I picked up an Atlas GP-40-2 off ebay a while back and now I'm "attempting" to speed match it with all my other DCC stuff. The GP-40-2 has the factory DCC Lenz model LEO62XF decoder. I downloaded the manual from Atlas. I amsure there is a way to access the programming of the Lenx unit with my NCE PowerCab but for the life of me, I can't change anything in the Lenz Decoder. Is there something special that I have overlooked or just don't understand? I'm starting to think I'm just too thick in the head to understand the LENZ system.
I too bought an Atlas GP40-2 on E-bay a few years back and had fits trying to speed match the LE062XF decoder also. I called Lenz as well as Atlas. I eventually sent the locomotive in to Atlas so they could see what the heck was wrong with it. I got it back a few weeks later with a note stating that the decoder was working fine. Nothing else. After an additional number of very frustrating calls (seems to be the norm for Atlas) they informed me that many of the decoders they installed in their "DCC equipped" locomotives have only limited capabilities. ie. changable address, and light ON/OFF function. This is why I will NEVER buy another locomotive (Atlas or otherwise) with the decoder factory installed. The LE062XF is a very noisy decoder anyway even if it did have full capabilities. You're much better off with a Digitrax or TCS imo. Sorry to break the bad news to you. At least you didn't have to spend hours on the phone and needless shipping charges. :mwacko: Brian
What CV's are you trying to change? If you are trying to speed match them using CV5(max voltage) and CV6(mid voltage), that decoder does not support those two CV's. To speed match them you have to build a custom speed table.
Like Robert said above, you have to change CV's 67-94 for speed matching. And then once you take all that time to speed match it, don't be surprised one day when you turn on your layout and you find that the decoder has lost it's settings. Common problem with them. So like Brian said, toss it and get a good aftermarket decoder. Mike
You've all answered my questions. I'm going to toss the decoder amd get a replacement from another vendor. I have poured over the decoder manual which imho is rather intimidating compared to other brands. The loco runs fine by itself but what fun is that? Once I started studying how to program CV29, I knew this decoder was going to be trouble. I'll just run it as the local till I get another decoder. Thanks for the advice.
You can list the Lenz for sale here in the "for sale" section, you never know when somebody may be willing to pay you for it.
