CN Orders High-Productivity End-of-Train Devices From Wabtec Railway Electronics Media Report Media report
Saw a FRED on a CN freight this afternoon that had a day-glo green housing and was wondering about it.
The turbine is inside the unit itself. You can hear them wind up like a tiny jet engine when you cut the brake pipe air in. Some of them whine loud enough to drown out the conductor's radio when he's standing close to it. Nice not to have to fool around with batteries all the time though.
