The time has come.. and on the 13th I will finally be buying my new DCC system..

Just deciding between the powercab and the zephyr extra..

I know that the PR3 can do both operations and programming..

but can the NCE USB do both? I thought somewhere I saw it can only do operations...

I just need to know.. :tb-biggrin:

I am using a Power Cab with the USB adapter. I use it with the JMRI Decoder-Pro and that is how I program most of my installs.
You can control a train via the JMRI to.

I concur with woodone. One advantage of using JMRI is you can keep a file of settings for each loco in case one loses it's memory. It's then a quick upload and job done.
Also, similar locos can be programmed quickly by using an existing file, changing it's name (to loco address) and then uploading and tweaking.

I think you can have up to 10 virtual throttles under JMRI in addition to those on you DCC system.

In case you run into trouble, consider the below.
You can join the Yahoo NCE Group and the Yahoo JMRI Group. Both are quite active. I belong to the NCE group but do not use JMRI. I also use the Power Cab and our club has the 5 amp Power Pro.
Sometimes belonging o more than one forum can help a lot in model railroading. You can bring helpful info back here. With the Internet, model railroading is a big community compared to the days of only magazines and train shows.
